David Zvekic - Her Umber Eyes [Villanelle]

2014-06-12 6

I lost my life beneath her umber eyes,
For sympathies that drowned amongst my own,
And for these moments say my last goodbyes.

A world within which no-one can surmise;
A desp'rate sea of boiling tears - my own.
I lost my life beneath her umber eyes.

How suffering is easy to advise,
When lovers find their way but leave alone,
And for these moments say my last goodbyes.

What happiness should turn on love's demise?
True love can never step down from its throne;
I lost my life beneath her umber eyes.

Desire culled in silence holds our cries,
That fear should haunt the halls of empty home;
And for these moments say my last goodbyes.

But here I've found the truth which underlies
Her love which rules the only strength I've known:
I lost my life beneath her umber eyes,
And for these moments say my last goodbyes.
